Candidate and resume databases in Australia: where employers can search for free

Posting an ad and waiting is the slow way to hire. Searching a candidate database is faster, and in Australia the choice runs from free (Workforce Australia’s candidate search, PostJobFree, SponsorTalent’s profile search) through pay-to-contact (CareerOne credits, SponsorTalent’s A$30 unlock) to subscription (SEEK Talent Search, LinkedIn Recruiter). The differences that matter are what you can see before you pay, whether the candidate is actually looking, and, for a growing share of the workforce, whether they have the right to work for you. Only one database shows the visa position on the profile.

The question the other databases do not answer

Around a million temporary visa holders in Australia have some form of work right, and their numbers are highest exactly where shortages are: care, hospitality, trades, transport, nursing. A general resume database shows you a chef; it does not tell you whether that chef can work 48 hours a fortnight (student), six months with you (Working Holiday), without restriction for two years (485), or only for a current sponsor (482). SponsorTalent profiles carry the visa position up front, so the first phone call is about the job, not the paperwork. Who can work for you today explains each category.

How a search on SponsorTalent works

  1. Register free; no card is needed to search.
  2. Search by occupation (121 occupation pages with their own candidate lists), then filter by location, whether the candidate is onshore, skills-assessment status and English result.
  3. Read the profile: experience, qualification, assessment, English, visa, documents on detailed profiles, and whether the candidate is verified as onshore.
  4. Unlock the contact for A$30 when you want to interview, or post a featured listing (A$149 with five unlocks) and let matching candidates apply. Unlocks also come in packs.

The candidate counts by state and city are live on the state pages; the employer search is at find candidates.

Searching well

  • Search the ANZSCO occupation, not your internal title; "Fitter (General)" finds people "Maintenance Technician" misses.
  • Filter for onshore first when you need someone within weeks; offshore candidates are a sponsorship timeline.
  • Treat "skills assessment held" as the strongest signal on a trades or professional profile: it means an Australian authority has already checked the qualification.
  • Run a VEVO check before the first shift for any visa holder, whatever the profile says.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free resume database for employers in Australia? Workforce Australia’s candidate search is free for registered businesses, PostJobFree and similar sites allow free searching with small Australian pools, and SponsorTalent is free to search with contact details unlocked at A$30. CareerOne previews free and charges credits to open applications.

How much does SEEK Talent Search cost? SEEK sells Talent Search access by subscription or bundled with job ads; pricing is quoted to the account rather than published. It reaches the largest pool, including many people who are not actively looking.

What does A$30 on SponsorTalent buy? The contact details of one candidate whose full profile you have already read: occupation, experience, qualification, skills-assessment status, English result, visa position and location. Searching and reading profiles is free; packs reduce the per-unlock price.

Can I see whether a candidate has the right to work before contacting them? On SponsorTalent, yes: profiles state the current visa or that the candidate needs sponsorship, and onshore candidates can be verified. Confirm with a VEVO check before the first shift regardless.

Are the candidates on SponsorTalent only overseas? No. A large share are already in Australia on student, 485 graduate, Working Holiday and bridging visas, concentrated in care, hospitality, trades and IT, and filterable as onshore.
