The visa pathway, in three lines

• 482 Skills in Demand: the usual first visa. Your business becomes a sponsor once (A$420), nominates the role (A$330), the candidate applies. Typically six to twelve months end to end; onshore candidates keep working on a bridging visa while it is decided.
• 494 regional: for businesses outside Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane; five years with permanent residence after three.
• 186 permanent: after two years with you on the 482, or directly with three years of experience and a skills assessment (the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council assesses this occupation for skilled migration. Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through Ahpra is required. Internationally qualified applicants usually complete the outcome-based assessment (portfolio and, where required, an OSCE) before registration.).
• English: IELTS 7.0 in each band (or equivalent) for Nursing and Midwifery Board registration.
